Guru Gobind Singh College for Women was established in 1973 by the Sikh Educational Society to empower young women with quality education to face the changing world. The institution has been working towards preparing students to lead a wholesome life, by inculcating human qualities as well as abilities to emerge as smart, confident, strong, informed and responsible citizens of the globalised world. Inspired by the teachings of the Sikh gurus, the College has been progressing steadfastly towards achieving its mission of creating balanced minds where knowledge is teamed with ethical thinking.

Facilities and Infrastructure

The Library of Guru Gobind Singh College for Women is well stocked with more than 24000 books which are distributed and divided into various sections depending upon the subjects they belong to. 19 different newspapers are also subscribed in English, Hindi and Punjabi by the Library. The Library has dedicated different sections for various purposes like Periodical Section, Circulation Section, Book Bank Section, e-Learning Resource Centre, etc. A facility of reading room is also there in the library for students to sit and study their personal books.

The Library provides an Open Access system. It is an ideal place for users to expand and widen their knowledge in a comfortable environment. A separate computer is placed for OPAC (Online Public Access Catalogue), so that students may search Library resources without any hassle. 

Technology has made our lives crisp and brisk, qualitatively enhanced in various ways and computers, as we are all aware, are the most visible benefits of technology. They can improve any aspect of life substantially. Our computer department thus has a huge contribution to the modern studies of our students, faculty members and academic staff. In addition to the computing resourcefulness offered by computers in today’s times, Computers also connect us globally. Computers open the doors to vast virtual spaces full of extensive information on almost every subject. Hence, our computer department is equipped with computers with the latest configuration and internet connection with excellent speed, both being operated using the latest software. We have four laboratories that come under the umbrella of our computer department, and these contain a total of 100 workstations that are networked.

Spacious and well-furnished state-of-the-art seminar hall. It has a seating capacity of more than 100 students. Hosts various guest lectures, seminars, pre-placement talks, workshops and other cultural activities. The latest audio-visual facilities like Interactive Board complement the various events conducted in the seminar hall.

The hostel is situated on the College premises amidst the tranquil ambience that pervades the surroundings. It offers a pleasant living experience to its residents who come from different states and countries. A large number of students from diverse backgrounds reside in our hostel, which has about 350 seats. The hostel building comprises a Dining Hall with a modern Kitchen, a Common Room with LCD and indoor games, a Reading Room with an internet facility, and a Gurudwara fringed by the lush green environs of a garden. The Dining Hall/Mess is equipped with the Bain Marie heating facility for hot food self-service. The meticulously developed hostel provides all requisite modern facilities, which include Water Coolers with Aqua guards, Room Coolers on the top floor and Geysers in the bathing area.
