Gurukula Kangri (Deemed to be University) was founded on March 4, 1902, by Swami Shraddhanandaji with the sole aim to revive the ancient Indian Gurukula System of education, on the bank of Ganges at a distance of about 6 km. from Hardwar and about 200 km. from Delhi. This institution was established with the objective of providing an indigenous alternative to Lord Macaulay’s education policy by imparting education in the areas of Vedic literature, Indian philosophy, Indian culture, modern sciences and research.

Library

The GKV library is well stocked with books related to engineering and technology; industry-related topics as well as world News. With over 8500 volumes of various topics, the library is constantly updated with the latest magazines, Newspapers, national & international journals, reference books and other material at regular periods. The library also owns its digital set up which is the e-journal initiative through which it offers students access to international libraries around the world. Hostel

The college has a boys’ and girls' hostel facility and has separate hostel facilities for boys and Girls. The hostel buildings have all the basic amenities needed for students and have spacious rooms with attached bathrooms.

Museum

The Role of Museums, aiming at the dispersal of knowledge pertaining to Ancient Indian Culture, is note-worthy. Keeping this aim in view, the Archaeological Museum, Gurukul Kangri (Deemed to be University), Hardwar was established during the fostering years of the Gurukul in 1907-08 on the eastern bank of the holy Ganges at Punyabhuminear Kangri Village, nestled close to the Shivalik foothills, with the inspiration of Swami Shraddhanandji. It is now more than a century-old institution of national importance. The main aim to establish it was to give knowledge of the ancient culture and civilization of India to the students as well as to the common people because the utility of the museum as a mode of education has been proved by UNESCO.

Yoga session for students

Department of yogic science regularly conducts yoga sessions for residential students as well as for students coming from other places and institutions. The department continuously arranges a series of lectures, yoga sessions, and workshops for the management of stress and anxiety and behavioural problems of the student. The Department of Yogic Science, Gurukula Kangari (Deemed to be University) works on the concept of a “stress-free life for students”.

NCC

Gurukula Kangri (Deemed to be University) has established an active NCC company i.e. 1/31 U.K. Company NCC Haridwar under 31 UK Battalion NCC Haridwar. The University offers training to 160 SD boys cadets under the Army Wing of the National Cadet Corps.
