The Guwahati College National Service Scheme was established on February 8, 1982, and the director of the program, Prof. Tarini Kalita founded it with 100 volunteers. Normal and special NSS camps were usually held during this period, funded by Gauhati N.SS Cell Nowadays, however, various types of programs are generally run by Guwahati College N.S.S.unit with the help of the College Fund. dr Satyajit Kalita from the department. from Hindi, and he has been running the program ever since. 

After successfully overcoming initial problems, GUWAHATI COLLEGE is now a full college equipped with the latest educational technologies. With the financial support of the U.G.C. and state government, the college currently offers high school and undergraduate courses in three majors: arts, science, and business. The college is now recognized as one of the top higher education institutions in the region with a student population of approximately 1500 students who are skillfully guided toward their career goals by highly qualified and experienced faculty.  Over the years, the college has acquired an impressive infrastructure. It includes a well-stocked library with a textbook section, branch libraries, a book bank for needy students, teaching aids, well-equipped laboratories, and a large playground.  The university encourages the organization of seminars, workshops, and conferences, N.S.S. and N.C.C., and other extracurricular activities. Guwahati College Library was established with the founding of the college in 1964. SP. Bhattacharya, Professor Emeritus of the College's Bengali Department, was the head of the library until qualified librarian Nagen Talukdar joined the department in 1976. The library has an excellent collection of textbooks, encyclopedias, periodicals, popular magazines, etc. to meet the needs of readers. Modern library services and facilities have been phased in to keep pace with the changing landscape of library services.
