The college laid its first stepping stones in the year 1986. From its humble beginnings with only a handful of students and teachers, it has come a long way and presently it holds the distinction of offering a wide variety of disciplines and courses to its students. The college offers honors courses in subjects like Bengali, Political Science, History, English, Education, Geography, Commerce, Physics, Mathematics, and general courses in a variety of subjects. The college will also introduce Sociology as a general subject this year. The college has kept up its upgradation initiatives under the guidance and leadership of its apex management, that is, the Governing Body. All the faculty members and the administrative staff wholeheartedly worked together in that direction. The college has gone through an institutional assessment conducted by the Directorate of Public Instructions, Government of West Bengal. The college also regularly updates the data on the AISHE portal. The college has adopted its motto of imbibing its students with the idea of progress and harmony through education which is reflected in the emblem of the college.

Infrastructure and Facilities

Library:

Haringhata Mahavidyalaya which started its journey in 1986 is proud of its journey and also of its library. It is the nerve center of the learning process in the college. Having more than 16000 books including reference books and a good number of journals/magazines the college always tries to hold up its teaching-learning process as well as research culture among faculties, students, and staff members. This library is a member of N-LIST (a project funded by the MHRD through INFLIBNET) which provides electronic access to a huge number of journals and e-books. The library provides open access to all teachers, staff, and students through the OPAC system. A separate reading room with a seating capacity of 60 students and also with a scope of internet surfing and a separate Career Counseling Corner with books and journals related to employment inspire the students of this backward area to be library centric.

Gym:

The college has a gymnasium for the students' use. An annual sports meet is held every year where the boys and girls take part.

Medical Facilities:

The college has arranged membership in a student health home for the students at the cost of Rs. 10 per head (annual) which provides specialized treatment.

Sports Facilities:

The college has a vast playground of its own. Students enthusiastically participate in annual sports and games. Even at district, university, and state levels, they have given good performances. The football team has been awarded lots of prizes and the students won the championship trophy in the inter-district athletic meet. Besides the college has a stock of sports goods for indoor and outdoor games.

IT Infrastructure:

The college has an excellent IT Infrastructure facility for the students. There are well-equipped computer laboratories. Along with the labs, the departments have computers, two highly sophisticated Xerox machines, LCD projectors, LED TVs, and cameras which were purchased.

Cafeteria:

The college canteen serves substantial and nutritious meals at reasonable prices to both students and staff members

Auditorium:

The college is soon going to build a well-furnished seminar hall with a capacity of 300 and an LCD projector facility. Now, seminars and cultural programs are held in a large classroom but the arrangement for a sophisticated seminar hall is already started.

Admission

Accredited by NAAC with a B Grade, Haringhata Mahavidyalaya offers BA, B.Sc., and B.Com for admissions to students from socially backward classes. 

Admissions are based on merit. Students must have passed 10+2 examinations with a minimum aggregate of 45% and a certain combination of subjects, depending upon the choice of course.

Vision

The vision of the college is to promote higher education among the people belonging to socially backward caste-class groups, like people involved in agricultural occupation, daily laborers, etc. A large number of these groups represent scheduled castes, tribes, other backward communities, and religious minorities.

Mission

The mission of the college is to encourage local youths to have exposure to higher education irrespective of caste, religion, gender, and level of economic status, to generate the spirit of harmony, social awareness, social integration, uniformity, and responsibility through higher education, to help poor students.
