It was the historic day of June 20, 1960, that saw the doors of Bombay’s newest College of Commerce & Economics open wide at dawn. The city, back then, wasn’t so populated, and the Principal wondered if he would have enough students to fill his classes.

HR College was awarded an ‘A’ Grade by NAAC with a CGPA of 3.46. H.R. The college received the "Best College" award from the University of Mumbai for 2010-2011. The institute has been recognized for its leadership potential, excellence in teaching, innovative student-centered approach, and strong international links. Ranked Top 100 in National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF).

Residential Accommodation
Separate boys' and girls' hostels with high security are available on the university campus. Boys and girls have two hostels with Wi-Fi services for UG and PG, which can accommodate about 450 students each with good infrastructure. A university van and car are always available to meet emerging customer needs. A well-equipped gym is established so that the students of the inn develop the physical ability of boys and girls. They also have indoor play facilities. A hygienic mess is attached to the hostels. The rooms are spacious and airy. Furious Free Campus.
The library
The Library is fully computerized with SLIM 21 which is an integrated Multi-user, multitasking library, and information software. The library also purchased the DColl module from SLIM to develop digital repositories for the institute. It also includes barcode scanners, a barcode printer, and a mini mobile computer - a slim inventory device that facilitates efficient shelving, inventory, and circulation tasks.
Canteen
It is speckless and maintained very well. Provides good quality fresh snacks, cold drinks, coffee, tea, and other food items in a hygienic and healthy way that fits in the student's pocket.
Sport
Physical education is strongly aimed at improving the physical and mental health of the individual player. This results in the development of dynamic personalities. Sports activities and achievements have helped many people get better job opportunities. The clean area with the natural gift of fresh air is an inspiring resource, which motivates the player to perform better. Sports carry the same weight as academics. All sports activities are encouraged by making all facilities available when students participate in intercollegiate, intra-college, and other tournaments. The victorious university teams have won all major sporting events in Tamil Nadu including the Anna University Interzonal Sports Championship.
