The All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) was established in November 1945 as a national-level apex advisory body with the aim of conducting a comprehensive survey of the available facilities for technical education and promoting development in a coordinated and integrated manner across the country. The AICTE Act was formulated to establish the council, intending to facilitate proper planning and coordinated development of the technical education system throughout India. Its objectives include promoting qualitative improvements in technical education alongside planned quantitative growth, as well as regulating and maintaining norms and standards within the technical education system and related matters.

Established on Maharashtra Day, May 1st, 1983, Amravati University was founded with the primary aim of addressing the educational needs of the rural population in western Vidarbha. The university's jurisdiction spans across five districts of Vidarbha, including Amravati, Akola, Yavatmal, Buldana, and Washim. Over the years, the university has witnessed significant growth, currently accommodating approximately 400,000 students. Notably, the university boasts a sprawling campus spanning 470.63 acres, housing 28 Teaching Departments, a Model Degree College in Buldana, and four Faculties, catering comprehensively to students' educational requirements.
A key focus of Amravati University is to uplift education among marginalized communities.
