The IIPM Bengaluru was established as an autonomous college in November 1993 with the assistance of the Ministry of Commerce and Industry (MoC) of the Government of India.  In the early years, the institute worked closely with the plantation industry and the Indian Chambers of Commerce (CBI) to develop the agricultural plantation sector. The IIPM organized short-term training programs and capacity-building programs for plantation farming stakeholders, involving growers, entrepreneurs, board members of producer organizations, small and medium-sized enterprises, civil servants, and CBI scientists.  , Indian government ministries and development ministers, department officials said.
