Indira Gandhi Engineering College Sagar is 4th among the 5 government autonomous engineering colleges of Madhya Pradesh. This college was established by the government of Madhya Pradesh in November 1981 keeping the industrial development of the Bundelkhand region in view and named Government Engineering College Sagar and the name has been modified to Indira Gandhi Engineering College Sagar later on. In 1981 the institute was started at its old site in the vicinity of Dr Hari Singh Gour University Sagar. In December 1986 the institute was shifted to the newly constructed buildings in the land of 220 Acres area allotted by the government of Madhya Pradesh in 1985 on a hillock near Baheriya Village of Sagar District, which is about 10 km away from Sagar City.

Residential Accommodations:

The Institute has a separate hostel for Boy,s & Girls with all modern facilities, for boarding and other recreational activities. The hostel has its own mess to provide good and hygienic food to the students. Spacious common rooms are provided in all the hostels, which are a place for constructive activities like indoor games, discussions and get together within the hostel. Well-furnished and spacious rooms are there for 144 Boys & 74 Girls. There are cubical rooms for the students. Each room is equipped with a bed, a study table, a study chair, an almirah and an air cooler. Various committees viz cultural, discipline, sports, mess, and maintenance have been established to provide opportunities for overall development in their personalities during their stay in the hostel. These clubs serve to organize all the cultural events and other happenings in the hostel. The hostel provides the students with daily newspapers and various magazines to make them aware of the daily happenings of the world. At present 140 boys & 74 girls are residing in the hostel.

The Central Library of the college has been established at the very beginning of the college to promote the students learning by reading good books. The library has more than sixty thousand books, a good number of bound journals, special memoirs and various magazines. Besides this, there is a good collection of rare manuscripts and reference books available for readers. Though the library staff is engaged in continuously improving and updating the central library of the college by purchasing new books and modern literature on science and technology, it always strives to improve the standards of the facilities as new requirements arise.

The college has a dedicated dispensary to provide the primary medical facility to the students as well as staff. Govt. deputes a medical officer for the college.

The institute has developed ample of facilities for physical education and sports. The tournaments and competitions of various indoor and outdoor games are regularly organized at the college campus and the support is extended to students for participating in division, state and nation-level tournaments and competitions as well.

Each department has its own computer centre with the state of the art computational facilities. All the labs are equipped with the latest configuration PCs, internally networked and inter-connected to each other through LAN. Each of the computer centres has its own printers, scanners, LCDs, and the latest application software licenses. Apart from these eight computer centres, there is a common computer centre for the use of all students from all departments.

The computational facilities of the college are growing and being updated through the annual budget by purchasing new computers and software licenses as per the changing requirements of the students and course curriculum.

Admission is based on an entrance exam conducted by the University.

he college has a well-equipped setup of a Scholarship Section to facilitate the students through various scholarships and fellowships offered by the govt. departments as well as autonomous/private bodies of the country and abroad. This section ensures to inform the students well before time to apply for the schemes they are eligible for and process their application forms within the stipulated time limit.
