Indira Gandhi Institute of Technology (IGIT), Dhenkanal was established in the year of 1982 and was managed directly by the Govt. of Odisha in the name of Odisha College of Engineering (OCE). Prior to this, since 1981, the institute in the name of Modern Polytechnic (MPT) was offering Diploma Courses in Civil, Electrical, Mechanical, Mining Survey Engineering. In the year 1987, both OCE & MPT were merged and renamed as IGIT, Sarang and the management was transferred to an Autonomous Society. Presently, the Institute is offering nine Under Graduate Engineering courses in Civil, Chemical, Electrical, Mechanical, Metallurgical, Electronics & Telecommunication, Computer Science Engg., Production Engg., Architecture; & two part-time Post Graduate Engg courses in Industrial Power Control & Drives, Environmental Sc. &Engg.; nine full time Post Graduate Engg courses / Master courseComputer Sc.Engg., Electronics and Telecom. Engg, GeotechEngg., Mechanical System Design, Mett. & Materials Engg., Power Electronics & Drives, Power System Engg., Production Engg., Structural Engg., Master in Computer Application; besides five Diploma Courses in Civil, Electrical, Electronics & Telecommunication, Mechanical & Metallurgical Engineering.

The Institute provides limited Hostel accommodation to its students with an integrated campus covering 179 acres of land encompassing hostels, staff quarters and a sprawling playground (Dr. M. P. Mishra Memorial stadium) with basketball, volleyball and badminton courts. In addition to this, with the Govt. approval, a proposal has been submitted to District authorities for further alienation of 200 acres of Govt. land in front of the Institute for its further expansion. The institute has central infrastructure facilities like Central Library (with 27,000 volumes of books and 50 current periodicals / journals subscribed every year), Central Computer Centre, Central Workshop, Knowledge Centre, 8 nos. ofstudent hostels having accommodation facility for students and other amenities such as SBI (Core Bank facilities), Guest house , Hospital, Post Office, Canteen, Students and Employees Cooperative Consumer stores, NSS, NCC, different clubs, Telephone Exchange, Mobile tower and Schooling up to High School level in its campus.

Residential Accommodations

Indira Gandhi Institute of Technology, Sarang campus has separate halls for boys and girls with all modern amenities and security. The hostels are dedicated to serve fresh and hygienic food prepared in their pantry. Other facilities include a common room with a television and dedicated space for indoor games. The hostels have subscriptions for many prominent daily newspapers and magazines. Separate courts for Volleyball, Basketball, Badminton and open gym are also present in the hostels. Facility of Diesel Generator in case of a power cut is provided for the hostel area. Highly experienced staffs look after the institute assets and ensures that the hostel remains responsive all the time.

IGIT Health Club:

The IGIT HEALTH CLUB was inaugurated on 3rd March 2008 in order to keep the students, staff and their wards physically fit. The club at present is well equipped with modern apparatus for three segments such as Cardio Vascular efficiency, Weight Training (Shape Up in Style) and General Fitness. Registered members of the Club are entitled to avail the facilities on payment of nominal user fee. The Winter Session of the Club is 1st Aug. to 31st Jan. Where as the Summer Session starts from 1st Feb. and ends on 31st July each year. Enrolment procedures for respective sessions are to be over by 20th of July and January. The Club is managed by the Society of Physical Education & Recreation at present.

Medical Facilities:

At IGIT Sarang, the health and wellness of all its stakeholders are of utmost importance. The institute has a health centre in its campus with round the clock healthcare facility maintained by well-trained medical professionals. The health centre ensures immediate medical care and fast-aid in emergency. Any form of viral diseases, infections and minor injuries are treated within the campus. The health centre is well equipped with an isolation room, dressing room, pharmacy and doctor’s room. Institute ambulance is also readily available 24*7 for immediate referral in any unforeseen situation.
