Founded in 1987, the Indira Gandhi Krishi Vishwividyalaya is an autonomous, nonprofit organization that focuses on improving the lives of farmers throughout Chhattisgarh. Through its agricultural faculties, the university coordinates education, research, and extension. This is done through a grant in aid from the ICAR and the State Government, as well as other international agencies. In 1903, the British government established the Agricultural Research Station in Raipur. Slowly, it grew into what is now the campus of the Indira Gandhi Krishi Vishwavidyalaya, Raipur. A few years later, a Rice Research Station was established, led by Dr. R.H. Richharia. In 1961, the government of Madhya Pradesh founded a College of Agriculture and Horticulture. The University has 23 constituent government colleges and 15 affiliated private colleges.

Admission

The admission to B.Sc. Agriculture/Horticulture is confirmed based on merit in the CG PAT of the State Board. Admission to B. Tech. of Agriculture Engineering is offered based on performance in the Pre-Engineering Test (PET). The admissions to Postgraduate courses are allocated based on the merit in the Common Entrance Test(CET) for graduates of Agriculture. For Ph.D. also a Common Entrance Test is also conducted by the university and admission criteria include performance in CET, academic score in Post-Graduation, and written and oral tests.
