Established in October 2000 under PIPMATE, Pondicherry, Indira Gandhi Polytechnic College, Mahe was originally named  Mahe Polytechnic, Mahe. The Pondicherry Government changed the institution's name to Indira Gandhi Polytechnic College, Mahe. The college temporarily functioned under the rule of Rajiv Gandhi. 19 ITI locations.From October 2000 to August 20, 2012. The College moved to its campus at Pondayat Kunnu, Chalakkara, Mahe, Post New Mahe from the 21st.08/2012. The Pondicherry Government has acquired 04.16 acres of land in Chalakkara, Mahé for the construction of a new building for the facility. The construction of the building was entrusted to the Mahé Public Works Department. The grand opening of the new building took place on January 8, 2011.  The main aim of the institution is to promote technical education in Mahé. The school is accredited by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE). It is one of the best colleges in the Mahé region.
