The Institute for Open and Distance Learning, Barkatullah Vishwavidyalaya, was founded in 1975 as the Department of Correspondence Courses. In 2015, the university received Class “B” accreditation from the NAAC (National Assessment and Accreditation Council). the ability to teach a large number of courses at the master's and postgraduate levels. While the institute offers courses in many different directions, it is particularly well known for its MA and PG degree courses.
