The Islamia College of Science and Commerce was founded in 1961 by the state government. As an autonomous educational institution offering higher education at undergraduate and postgraduate levels in various disciplines of science and management, it has grown to become one of the most notable and glorious places of academic excellence and magnitude in the state. The academic qualifications and reputation of the college caught the attention of the New Delhi University Grants Commission in 2010 andThe college was awarded CPE (College with Potential for Excellence) status as the only college in J& K state. 

Accreditations and Ranking:

The College has been declared an Autonomous College under section 2(b-a) of the Kashmir and Jammu Universities Act No. XXIV of 1969 (as amended in 2014) for a period of six years (2014-15 To 2019-2020) under UGC Notification No.F.22-1/2014(AC) dated 03-08-2014 followed by University Notification No. F(Auto-Status-ICSC)Acad/KU/14 Dated 13-10-2014. Recognizing all these credentials of the College the National Assessment and Accreditation Council Bangalore (NAAC) Re-accredited this College at the "A" level with an institutional score of 3.27 CGPA in August 2017.
