Shivaji University, founded in 1962, pays homage to the renowned Maratha Warrior and architect of the Maratha empire, Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. Its inauguration on November 18th, 1962, by Dr. Radhakrishnan, the then President of India, marked a significant milestone. The University was established with the primary aim of meeting the educational needs of South Maharashtra. Encompassing Kolhapur, Sangli, and Satara districts, the University serves approximately 300,000 students across 280 affiliated colleges and recognized institutes. This region boasts a diverse socio-cultural heritage, nurtured under the visionary leadership of Chhatrapati Shahu Maharaj, the ruler of Kolhapur.
