Infrastructure

The original campus was built on a 15.55-acre plot. It now covers 27.35 acres. On its inception, the campus was home to laboratories for Surface Science and Solid State Chemistry. It also included instruments such as Transmission Electron Microscope, Scanning Tunneling Microscope and an X-ray diffractometer. The Centre's entire infrastructure is now housed here, including research units and separate buildings for administration, academic outreach, daycare, and dining hall. This campus also houses residences for staff and students, with limited parking spaces. This campus offers a peaceful environment for researchers to devote their time to experimental/theoretical work in a serene atmosphere.

Library:

The JNCASR library has a large collection of books, and access to almost 4,000 scientific journals. To provide students and teachers with information, the library continues to organize and disseminate resources. The library also offers document delivery, interlibrary lending, current awareness and bibliometric search. In 2019-2020, 95 books were added and 167 journal subscriptions were purchased. The library also welcomed 77 new patrons, bringing the total number to 699.

Gym:

The Center has gym facilities available for students and residents, with the latest equipment and clothing. To assist students with their fitness drills, a qualified Gym Instructor has been appointed. Multi-gym rooms include a Power Tower, 10-station multi-gym and a multi-purpose bench press. Twister, ab rollers, dumbbells from 1.5 to 25 kg, steel weight plates and rods. RO water is also available.

Hostels:

The Jawahar Students Hostel is located on the IISc Gymkhana Campus and has 15 rooms available for visiting students. Centre Students pay Rs 100 per night for a daily room.

Workshops:

AMRL Block Workshop has a lathe that can perform turning, phasing boring, and threading operations. The CNC Milling Machine, which is tabletop and 4 access, can be used to cut soft materials and perform associated work. It also allows for 3D printing with CAD Design provided by research labs. This machine can also be used for tool grinding, drilling and limited fabrication.

JNCASR Scholarships

All Center students are eligible for scholarships and fellowships to help pay tuition and living expenses. Students may also be eligible for loans or fellowships from the college. These are the terms of the nominal scholarships:

Summer Research Fellowship: JNCASR offers 2 month summer fellowships to students that the Department of Science and Technology, the government of India, supports. Students are placed in research groups at JNCASR, or with scientists from other countries. They are reimbursed for travel expenses and receive a monthly stipend worth INR 10,000.

Fellowships Programs:

According to government guidelines, Ph.D. students will receive a JRF/SRF in the amount of INR 31,000 for the first two years, and INR 35,000 for the third year.

MS by Research/MS by Engineering students will get a monthly stipend of INR 31,000 as well as a one-time travel grant of up to INR 40,000 to attend international/national conferences.

Students enrolled in Integrated Ph.D. programs are paid Rs.19000/year for the first two years, Rs.31,000/year for the third and fourth year, and Rs.35,000/year for the fifth, sixth and seventh years.
