The College was established as Nagarjuna Sagar Engineering College in 1965 by the Government of Telangana. When the college was under the administrative control of the Department of Technical Education, it was affiliated to Osmania University, Hyderabad. With the formation of Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University on 2nd October 1972, it became a constituent college of the University and was later renamed as JNTU College of Engineering, Hyderabad. From its inception in 1965 to 1984, the College was located at Masab Tank Campus. In 1984, the College was shifted to its permanent location at Kukatpally, a 100 acres site, about 20 km from the heart of the City, on Bombay National Highway (NH-9).

Library
The College Library was established in 1965. With the College and University growth the Library has grown too. It has increased to the number of 30,000 volumes and 70 journal. In 2004, the College Library was merged with University Library and renamed as University Library, a central library for all units that comprise Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University, Hyderabad.
Digital library established in the 1st floor of the college library building, with 50 computers in the year 2016. The Library collection includes Books for reference, Textbooks News papers, Print Journals E-Journals, e-books, and e Journals.
Hostels
The school currently has four hostel blocks. Two specifically for males and one girls. Hostels are able to accommodate around 820 girls and 575 boys. Hostels have the best facilities to meet the needs of students.
Sports and Recreation
The college is equipped with facilities for games and sports. It has facilities for playing Cricket, Football, Table Tennis as well as other games. Running tracks are also accessible. There is a multi-gym on the campus.
