The College was established in the year 1963 The foundation stone was laid on 23rd July 1963 by then central steel minister Shri Neelam Sanjiva Reddy who later on became the president of India. It was started with the aim of providing higher education to the employees of ‘Bhilai Steel Plant’. Students enrolled at that time were mostly employees of BSP who were in need of an educational degree for their promotion. The college served as a major resource centre to provide manpower to Bhilai Steel Plant.

To run, monitor and control the operations of colleges, an effective & efficient administrative block is developed for colleges. The Administrative Block of the colleges is a well-planned and spacious building that consists of offices of the entire academic team, principal offices, account section with a separate IQAC office.

The National Service Scheme (NSS) is a Central Sector Scheme of the Government of India, Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports. It provides an opportunity to the student youth of India to take part in various community service activities. The sole aim of the NSS is to provide hands-on experience to young students in delivering community service.

Residential Accommodations:

The Hostel has a spacious campus, with well-furnished Rooms and well equipped Dining Hall, a Common Room, Kitchen. The Hostel also has a Visitor’s Room. It provides accommodation to female students. The Hostel is managed by the Warden on behalf of the Principal. General policy matters regarding the governance of the Hostel are formulated by the Hostel Committee.

The Central Library with a collection of 25000 books. It is fully flagged with good quality of high-cost standard reference and textbooks, reputed research journals, theses, project reports, audio/visual and electronic learning resources in all disciplines of technical education with an automated book issue/return system. It also contains the literature of social sciences and humanities.

The College comprises a variety of science courses. All the laboratories are well equipped with good apparatus to facilitate students with the opportunity to undertake experiments with high accuracy. All department has well-maintained laboratory infrastructural facilities and students are trained in the laboratories to enhance their knowledge.

Healthcare facilities are available round the clock at the College Health Centre and also in the hostel. A doctor has been appointed as College Doctor. The Health Centre functions to provide immediate medicinal and first aid to all students and staff if the situation arises.

Smart Classrooms are technology-enhanced classrooms that foster opportunities for teaching and learning by integrating learning technology and allowing the Professor to teach using a wide variety of media. Smart classrooms are equipped with computers, LCD projectors, Projector screens, and Speakers.

The objective of the Canteen and meal service is to protect by reducing the risk of foodborne illness, with proper sanitary conditions, and preventing adulterated food. The Management of the Canteen is directly under the control of the College Administration. The canteen is located inside the College.

The importance of exercise cannot be neglected for good physical and mental health. The college offers separate gym facilities for boys and girls. The gym here has all the modern equipment for workouts and is made available to students during morning and evening hours.
