The establishment of a separate Rural Development and Panchayat Raj University in Karnataka was envisioned by the pro-active Hon’ble RDPR Minister Sri. H. K. Patil. Accordingly, the proposal of establishment of the University has been approved by both the houses of Legislature in the Chief Minister’s Budget speech 2013-14.
The university was previously named Karnataka state rural development panchayat University (KRSDPRU) is a state-owned public institution. The institution is nearly three decades old , and is managed by its chancellor Draupadi Murmu as well as VC Mukul Narayan Deo. The campus is situated on the urban area of Hazaribagh. Additionally, the school has been granted approval by UGC. It also takes pride with a strong alumni base. The most notable alumni from the school include names such as Bidhu Jha Subodha Kumar and B.S. Shay among others.
Karnataka State Rural Developoment and Panchayat Raj University has received approval from UGC.
KSRDPRU provides only PG courses, such as MBA, MSc, MCom as well as MPH and MSW.
Infrastructure

The admission process to all classes offered at Karnataka State Rural Development and Panchayat Raj University is based on merit. The eligibility requirements of KSRDPRU is score of 45% in the qualifying test.
The number of students accepted for each course is determined by the university at times; 15% of courses are reserved to candidates from other countries.

The mission of the university is to impart education and training to various stake holders for rapid economic growth and sustainable development that reduces poverty and creates employment opportunities, access to essential services in health, education and skill development, leading to inclusive growth through the democratic mechanism of Panchayat Raj institutions, where people decide their own welfare and economic and socio-political development.
