The college is named after Shri Badri Dutt Pandey who fought against the Britishers and abolished the prevalent Kulee Begar Pratha a practice of exploiting common people. The Kumaon Kesari Pt. Badridutt Pandey Government Post Graduate College at Bageshwar, Bageshwar District (Uttarakhand) was established on October 22, 1974, through the efforts of the Honorable MLA Smt. founded as a degree college. Saraswati Das. Five years later he was promoted to post-graduate college. The college is named after Shri Badri Dutt Pandey, who fought against the British and abolished the widespread practice of exploiting the common people of Kulee Begar Pratha. For this brave act, he was awarded the title of Kumaon Kesari.

The college has become a beacon of higher education for both boys and girls. Since its inception, the college has been dedicated to providing quality education in rural, remote, backward, and hilly areas of the state. The college covers an area of 17.5 hectares of land and is located on the banks of the sacred Saryu River. More than 3,500 permanent students are currently studying at various faculties of the college.
