Kuvempu University an affiliating University established in 1987. It is a State University recognized by UGC under 2(f) and 12(b). The University has been named after great Kannada writer Shri KUVEMPU and has achieved a distinctive academic profile and a cultural identity of its own. Interestingly, the features of its identity seem to have emerged out of the multifaceted personality of Kuvempu, the great doyen of Kannada literature, a Jnanapitha awardee and one among the most significant cultural figures of modern India.
In 1987, the institution was established. KUVEMPU University was formerly called the Sahyadri University. It is also an independent, non-profit, interdisciplinary higher education institution under the supervision by the Karnataka Government. KUVEMPU University is located in the industrial city of Bhadravathi located in Shivamooga, Karnataka.
KUVEMPU University has a significant academic profile along with distinct identity, culture. KUVEMPU is headquartered in the Jnana Sahyadri Campus located in Shivmogga. To make it clear the literal meaning of Jnana Sahyadri Campus is 'the Western Ghats of Knowledge'. KUVEMPU University has a digitally equipped library. In its initial years that began in 1987 the library operated as part of the Post Graduate Centre. It was in the direct supervision that of University of Mysore. Additionally, the materials from KUVEMPU library were transferred to the B.R. Project. KUVEMPU library were moved to B.R. Project for a short time. However, the library relocated its premises in 1988 to its headquarters of the Sahyadri Campus. In the end, KUVEMPU University built the new library on the campus of its own in Shivamooga. Furthermore it is the center for all activities at the college. Seminar Hall
