Infrastructure and Facilities

Library:

Lady Brabourne College Library started its journey in a rented house in Park Circus, Kolkata, in the year 1939. The distinctive feature of our college lies in its cosmopolitan character, it’s a multilingual and multi-religious entity. The library is located on the first floor of the main college building. 

Computer Lab:

The network connectivity of Lady Brabourne College was implemented throughout the Campus consisting of Fibre Backbones and copper backbones between Main Campus, Hostel, and PG Building. The Fibre Backbones were connected between Main Building and the old Science Building, Hostel Super’s Office to  PG Building. Copper Backbones were connected between the Principal’s Office to Library, the Principal’s Office to Chemistry (Main Building), Old Science Building to New Science Building. It was a Managed Network using managed active devices like Switches, Firewalls, and Access Points.

Hostel Facilities:

Lady Brabourne College Hostel is located on the adjacent premises of the College and can accommodate more than 250 girls. There are two blocks of buildings for both Undergraduate and Postgraduate students, including a visitors’ room, a common room for the boarders equipped with media facilities, a Library, a Gymnasium, a dining room, a canteen, and a reprographic center. Admission to the hostel is strictly based on merit, distance from hometown, and the reservation quota for SC, ST, OBC, and Persons with Disabilities. It is ensured that each department gets a fair share of equal seats in the Hostel. The Hostel administration is entrusted to the Superintendent, Assistant Superintendent, and Matron, assisted and supported by a good number of maintenance staff, both government and private. Security is ensured by security guards and gatekeepers, both government and private, and CCTV cameras installed on the campus. A dedicated Hostel Committee comprising two Conveners and several members (all members of the teaching faculty) is there to guide and monitor the hostel affairs regularly. A night school is also run as part of the Outreach Program by the Hostel students in the Hostel premises where children from the adjoining slum areas are taught. The hostel campus has a well-maintained and developed butterfly garden with a large number of flowering plants that serve as hosts to different species of butterflies.

Common Room:

Lady Brabourne College, being a girls' College utilizes the Students' Common Room in multifarious ways. This is a space exclusively for students. This is a spacious, well-equipped, and welcoming place with recreational and gymnasium facilities. As part of the West Bengal Government initiative, a vending machine along with incinerators has been installed in the Common Room and its attached washroom for the benefit of the students. One female attendant has been deployed at the entrance of the common room to aid the students.

Canteen:

The college canteen has been upgraded to maintain better hygienic standards and is equipped to cope with the mid-break rush efficiently with additional space assigned recently. A canteen has also been opened on the second campus of the college, in the PG building, where hostel students can also enjoy evening snacks.

Gym:

The College not only strives for the academic excellence of its students but endeavors towards their holistic development. To ensure that the students remain physically fit, they have access to three gymnasiums that have been set up in the College premises - one in the newly constructed Roma Chaudhuri Building, one in the Student’s Common Room, and the third in the College Hostel. The gymnasiums are equipped with modern equipment and facilities.

Auditorium:

The College has an air-conditioned auditorium with a capacity to seat approximately 350 people. It has provision for state-of-art audio-visual facilities which enable the hosting of seminars, conferences, workshops, and cultural programs. The auditorium is also used to conduct General classes as and when necessary.

Vision

The vision of the Institution is the Empowerment and Emancipation of its women student. The Institution aims at nurturing a student who enters its Portals in adolescence and guiding her through her Undergraduate years to a sense of maturation and self-belief.

Mission

The Institution makes an effort to develop a value-based mindset, intellectual perception, social and environmental sensitivity, and health awareness through varied meaningful and participative programs which go far beyond the pure academic pursuits of the designated syllabus.
