The All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) was established in November 1945 as a national-level apex advisory body with the aim of conducting a comprehensive survey of the available facilities for technical education and promoting development in a coordinated and integrated manner across the country. The AICTE Act was formulated to establish the council, intending to facilitate proper planning and coordinated development of the technical education system throughout India. Its objectives include promoting qualitative improvements in technical education alongside planned quantitative growth, as well as regulating and maintaining norms and standards within the technical education system and related matters.

Established in 1998 through the enactment of Madhya Pradesh Vidhan Sabha Act 13, 1998, Rajiv Gandhi Proudyogiki Vishwavidyalaya (RGPV) spans across a vast campus of approximately 247 acres, aiming to evolve into a center of excellence in technical education, research, and innovation. The university encompasses 5 University Teaching Departments (UTDs), 200 affiliated engineering colleges, 98 pharmacy colleges, 95 MCA colleges, and 4 architecture colleges, offering undergraduate instruction in 17 courses and diploma courses in emerging and traditional disciplines through 85 polytechnic institutions. Nestled amidst picturesque and hilly surroundings, the university now offers Ph.D. programs and 11 postgraduate programs.
