The foundation stone was laid by the then Prime Minister of India, Sri Lal Bahadur Shastri. The Malnad Development Foundation was formed in 1964. Its first President was Sri K G Odeyar, an ex-MP. The goal was to provide quality, affordable education to people in and around Sagar. .Despite being in a rural area, the college has helped the local community a lot.
