The Lokmanya Tilak Municipal Medical College has a reputation as one of the best medical institutions in the country, despite being the youngest of the three major municipal hospitals that teach medical courses. It is named after one of the prominent freedom fighters, Lokmanya Tilak. The facility strives for service excellence and is the first major referral hospital. 

Founded fifty years ago in 1964 with 60 students, the College of Medicine has grown into one of the best-specialized training centers and produces quality health professionals. The hospital employs 550 graduate students and 300 senior staff who treat a huge number of patients every year. Its distinction is that it is the first hospital in the country to offer trauma services and specialize in disaster relief services.
