On 15 July 1941, a great expectation of the people living North of Beadon Street was fulfilled with the foundation of Maharaja Manindra Chandra College at 20, Ramkanto Bose Street, Kolkata-700003. It had been possible due to the drive and initiative of some spirit of Dr. Panchanan Neogi I.E.S (Retd.), a well-known educationist of the time, and the benevolence of Maharaja Sris Chandra Nandi of Cossimbazar. The genesis of the college may be traced to a public meeting held on December 15, 1940, at 44/A, New Shyambazar Street. A resolution was adopted in that meeting to the effect that an Arts, Science, and commerce college be opened in memory of the illustrious Maharaja Manindra Chandra Nandi of Cossimbazar at 20, Ramakanto Bose Street, Kolkata. His son Hon’ble Maharaja Sris Chandra Nandi kindly consented to hand over the premises to the proposed Governing Body of the College.

Infrastructure and Facilities

Library:

The library offers Open access facility to its students for the Reading and Reference Section. Teachers enjoy Open access to the entire collection of the library. The Library participates in social networking sites like Facebook and Twitter. There is a Facebook page for Maharaja Manindra Chandra College Central Library. Members of the page can directly link themselves with the library through it. The Library subscribes to the Institutional Membership of the British Council Library and The American Library for the faculty members. They can borrow documents from this library and attend different activities such as talk shows, cinema screenings, presentations, etc.

The library is fully WIFI enabled and students and teachers can utilize the WIFI facility with a suitable password.

Canteen:

The college houses two separate canteen on the 2nd floor of the college for the students, faculty members and staff, serves healthy food and meals at subsidized rates. It has been upgraded to maintain better hygienic standards and is well equipped to cope with the mid-beak rush, efficiently with additional space assigned recently.

Gym:

The College has lately opened a highly well-equipped Multi-Gym funded by the Department of Youth & Sports, Government of India. It offers facilities to both the students and staff of the college.

Admission

The college offers both general and honors UG courses in the science, commerce, and arts streams. The admission process at Mahadevananda Mahavidyalaya is done through online mode. Interested and eligible candidates are required to submit their application form.

A candidate who passed the Higher Secondary or its equivalent Examination (10+2 level) in or after 2020 is eligible to apply for admission to the undergraduate courses.

A candidate must have passed in English (full marks not less than 100) in the previous qualifying examination to apply for B. A / B.Sc./B.Com courses.

Admission will be conducted strictly on the basis of merit. The subject-wise merit lists will be prepared based on corresponding INDEX MARK for all categories of students.

SC/ST/OBC-A/OBC-B/EWS candidates from West Bengal having original certificates are eligible for reservation benefits.

Admission to any course of the college is provisional and is subject to the final approval of the University of Calcutta.

Anti-ragging declaration as mandated by the UGC is to be furnished by every student after admission.
