Maharajah's College, Vizianagaram, popularly known as M.R. College, which was established in 1879, introduced PG Courses in November 1987. In the First year, only three departments - the Department of Commerce, the Department of Economics, and the Department of History - occupied three small rooms in M.R. College for UG with 5 teaching faculty and 87 Students.

Facilities and Infrastructure

Hostel:

The MRPG College provides a hostel facility for both boys and girls separately. Girls Hostel facilitated separate building in the campus itself and Boys Hostel situated 1 km far away from the campus is maintained in a rented building, and accommodates nearly 90 Students. Whereas girls hostel can accommodate about 140 candidates with attached bathrooms. Separate wardens are appointed to look after the welfare and needs of the students in these hostels. Adequate medical facilities are also available for the hostilities.

Transport:

The College maintains four buses for transporting the staff and students, who are residing in the nearby areas. The commuters should pay the prescribed fee for transport. Further, the college extends free transport facilities to SC/ST students, who are residing in the social welfare hostels. The college has a spacious parking facility for two-wheelers and for four-wheelers.

Physical Education:

The Management has allotted 3.84 acres of land exclusively marked for playfield in survey No. 200 at Phool Baugh, Vizianagaram. It has allotted half of the ground for a cricket field and had installed the following Courts in the remaining area of the playground. The college organizes intramural tournaments for the students every year and conducts competitions for the staff members in different events.

Canteen Facility:

The college has a well-maintained canteen with a plinth area of 6000 ft. It serves snacks, tea, coffee, bakery products, and meals in a hygienic atmosphere during working days. A public telephone booth is provided in the canteen for students' use.

NSS:

The National Service Scheme (NSS) is an Indian Government Public Service Programme conducted by the Department of Youth Affairs and Sports of the Government of India which began in 1969. 

Library:

The College opted for a digital form of the library with a 20,000 book stock with access to international and national journals, magazines, and periodicals. The library has 20 computer systems to access the internet with a 2 Mbps speed and also provides a book issue facility.
