The University of Mysore is one of the oldest Universities in India. Sri. Krishnaraja Wodeyar IV, the benevolent ruler of Mysore, and Sir M.Visweswarayya, Engineer-Statesman and the then Dewan of Mysore, were the pioneers in establishing the University. The University came into existence on 27th July 1916, as the sixth in the country and the very first in the erstwhile Princely State of Mysore.

Maharaja College Mysore was founded in 1894, in the city of Mysore, Karnataka. The college offers 3 UG degrees like B.A., BBA, and B.Com in various specializations, and 3 PG Courses M.A., M.Sc, and M.Phil in different specializations.

Facilities and Infrastructure

Mysore University library is one of the oldest and largest University Library in the country and the Mother of other University Libraries in Karnataka. The Library started functioning in the year 1918. It has a glorious record of 91 years of worthy service with a resource collection of 6 Lakhs volumes in its systems today. The inception collection of the library was around 2311 books which were housed in the Jubilee building and later moved to Maharaja’s college campus finally, the library shifted to the new building at Manasagangotri Campus in 1965. The Foundation stone was laid by the first UGC Chairman Prof. C.D.Deshmukh on 11th July 1960. It was inaugurated by the then President of India Dr. Sarvapalli Radhakrishnan on 7th December 1965.

Residential Accommodations

The college has separate hostels for boys and girls. A total of 5 different hostels are available to accommodate the students of the college.
Library
the college has one of the oldest libraries in the country, it has a vast collection of more than 2 lakhs of books and other resources. The library has a Digital Information Resource Centre which has 50 computers through which students can access many e-books and e-journals.

Auditorium
There is an auditorium in the Centenary Building where all the literary and cultural activities of the students are organized.

Sports Facilities
There is a separate Director of Physical education who looks after the sports activities. Vast sports fields for outdoor games, an indoor stadium, and a well-maintained swimming pool cater to the needs of the students who are interested in sports.

Admission

The whole admission process for all the courses offered is offline and merit-based. Any candidate who fulfills the minimum eligibility criteria can take part in the admission process. Admission to all the courses is based on the marks scored by the applicant in the concerned qualifying examination.

Scholarships

There are many scholarship programs awarded by the Central and State government to needy and meritorious students. Some of the scholarship and financial aid programs are mentioned below.

1. Post-matric scholarships of the Government of India for SC/ST students
2. Scholarships of the Directorate of Backward Classes and Minorities in Karnataka
3. Special scholarships for children of Political Sufferers and Defence Personnel
4. Scholarship for the physically handicapped
5. Scholarship/financial assistance provided by the Students' Welfare Fund etc
