History Mallabhum Institute of Polytechnic Bankura has its roots deep in the history of Bishnupur, the departmental headquarters of the same name in the Bankura district, a place of handicrafts and culture. For nearly a thousand years, the country was also called Mallabhum because it was the capital of the Malla Kings of Mallabhum. The terracotta temples here are the best examples of the classical style of Bengali architecture. Apart from the unique architecture of this period, Bishnupur is also famous for its terracotta work. Due to royal patronage, the Bishnupur Gharana, a classical music of Hindustan, was also born in the late 18th century, which is truly nostalgic for the entire country.

We have one three-storied hostel for boys of different semesters and one three-storied for girls. We consider the safety of every student very important in the hostel. There are permanent security points in front of the main gate of each hostel, where 24-hour security is organized. We are committed to preventing explosions not only on the campus of the institute but also in the hostel, hence special security measures have been taken in the first year of hostel. The anti-explosion team and our teachers regularly monitor the hostel to prevent senior students from entering the first-year hostel.

There is a central library that is fully automated and runs on KOHA software. The library also has a barcode-based circulation system for quick service to users.

There is a computer lab with 40 computers with the latest technology and modern software essential for engineering students. It is also equipped with an internet connection with a line speed of 2 Mbps. Besides, there is another computer lab with 14 computers with all modern facilities and internet connectivity for various subjects and practical purposes.

MIP has spacious and well-equipped workshops which are essential to gain practical experience. Different departments have separate workshops for individual topics. Each workshop offers ample opportunities to develop students' technical skills. Some notable equipment includes lathes, milling machines, UTM, drilling, and milling machines. MIP encourages play and sports. The university's sprawling campus has separate playing fields for football, cricket, volleyball, and basketball-badminton.
