The All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) was established in November 1945 as a national-level apex advisory body with the aim of conducting a comprehensive survey of the available facilities for technical education and promoting development in a coordinated and integrated manner across the country. The AICTE Act was formulated to establish the council, intending to facilitate proper planning and coordinated development of the technical education system throughout India. Its objectives include promoting qualitative improvements in technical education alongside planned quantitative growth, as well as regulating and maintaining norms and standards within the technical education system and related matters.

Founded in 1998 under the Madhya Pradesh Vidhan Sabha Act 13, 1998, Rajiv Gandhi Proudyogiki Vishwavidyalaya spans a vast 247-acre campus, aiming to become a hub of excellence in Technical Education, Research, and Innovations. It encompasses 05 UTDs, 200 affiliated Engineering Colleges, 98 Pharmacy Colleges, 95 MCA Colleges, and 04 Architecture Colleges, offering a wide range of undergraduate and diploma courses. Nestled amidst picturesque hills, the university now also provides Ph.D. programs and 11 postgraduate courses.
