Maharashtra Education Society has its office in Pune, founded in 1860 and registered on 19 November 1887 under the Societies Registration Act XXI of 1860 and on 15 December 1952 under the Bombay Public Trusts Act. Maharashtra Education Society plays an important role. In 1860, Vaman Prabhakar Bhave, Vasudev Balvant Phadke, and Laxman Narhar Indapurkar founded the Maharashtra Education Society (MES), earlier known as Poona Native Institutions. The great revolutionary freedom fighter Vasudev Balvant Phadke was the first secretary and treasurer of the Maharashtra Education Society.

It was formed with the aim of instilling national ideas and creating strong character and ideals. The last one hundred and fifty-two years are proof that the goals of the society have been achieved.
