Manipal Institute of Technology (shortened MIT Manipal) (formerly Manipal Engineering College) is a private constituent institution of Manipal Academy of Higher Education that specializes in engineering. MIT contains 17 academic departments and awards undergraduate, graduate, and post-graduate degrees. Established in 1957 in Manipal, Karnataka, India, it is one of the first self-financed colleges in India. The Manipal Academy of Higher Education campus is spread over 313 acres of what once used to be a desolate plateau of hard, laterite rock in south Karnataka's Udupi district.
