After the slavery of nearly two centuries when our country got independence, our economy was in a wretched position. The builders of the nation realized the necessity of rapid industrialization of the country. For boosting it, facilities for technical education were essential and hence engineering institutions started coming up throughout the country in the fifties. M.I.T. came into existence on 25th September 1954, just seven years after independence of India. It was inaugurated by Sri C.P.N. Sinha, then governor of East Punjab. Initially, it was started with the Civil Engineering discipline with a batch of 45 students in 1954-55 batch with the name ‘College of Civil Engineering, Muzaffarpur’.

On 21st April 1956 the first prime minister of India Pd. Jawaharlal Nehru laid down the foundation stone of the main building. Electrical & Mechanical Engineering branches were added from session 1960-61 and the institute was renamed as Muzaffarpur Institute of Technology. Pharmacy and Leather Technology were added in 1978 and 1986 respectively. Information Technology and Electronics and Communication Engineering disciplines were introduced in 2001.

The College is approved by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), and affiliated to  Aryabhatta Knowledge University, Patna 

Course offered:

The College offers B.Tech  in Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Electronics and Communication Engineering, Information Technology, and Leather Technology, M. Tech in Machine Design and Thermal Design, and B.Pharma.

Library: 

The Library of MIT has a large collection of books related to different streams of Engineering. It is well organized and contains more than 1000 Textbooks and Reference Books.

Hostel: 

There are a total of 7 Hostels. They are very well maintained and are augmented with modern facilities such as a telephone, television, common room, ward servant, in-house game room, and canteens. For 1st and 2nd-year students, multi-seated rooms are available and for Final and Pre-Final students, single-seated rooms are available. There is also one welfare hostel, reserved for SC and ST students.

Computer Centre: 

MIT has a well-equipped centralized computer center. At present, 150 computers are connected through a LAN, which provides internet access to students and faculty.

Sports: 

Many sports events are organized by the college. Major sports played are cricket, lawn tennis, volleyball, basketball, football, and indoor games. 

Others: 

MOXIE and JUNOON clubs, wifi enabled campus, etc.

Placements

Muzaffarpur Institute of Technology popularly known as MIT has conducted its placement drive on 17th February 2021 for the B-Tech final-year students.55 students were registered for this placement drive which was organized by HCL in which 44 students participated and 15 students were recruited out of which 7 were provided the CTC of INR 2.5 LPA.

Admissions:

Admissions for the UG programs at MIT are through the Bihar Combined Entrance Competitive Examination conducted by BCECE Board. 

Admission to M.Tech courses is on the basis of GATE scores. Post Graduate Engineering Admission Counselling (PGEAC) is conducted to get seats. Candidates can register for the counseling procedure through the BCECE Board website.
