Nalbar College is one of the leading colleges in Assam. Established in the pre-independence era (July 4, 1945), the college took a pioneering role in shaping and promoting higher education in the entire  Brahmaputra Valley. Initially, the college was affiliated to the University of Calcutta, but in 1948, when Gauhati University was established, it came under the academic jurisdiction of the latter. The college was granted UGC recognition under Chapter 2(f) in 1962. From a humble beginning of just 28 students, its current strength is about 4,420 students (including the graduate program). On a plot of more than 16 hectares, the higher education institution has about 8 hectares of built-up area. 

Nalbari College is a multi-modal co-educational institution providing education right from college to PG level. Currently, it offers UG programs in 09 departments of humanities and social sciences and 07  departments of natural sciences and PG programs in Assamese and English. 

Accreditation and Ranking 

Nalbar College is affiliated to Gauhati University. The college is accredited by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC).

Hostel: 

The hostel is only for campus girls. Hostels are allotted on the basis of merit at the time of admission. Badminton and Carrom facilities are available and Wi-Fi is available in the hostel campus.

The total area of the library is 515 square meters. (5,544 sq. ft.) with a total  of 139 seats. It has a collection of 66,973 textbooks and reference books, as well as more than 3,135,000 e-books and 6,000 e-journals. 12 newspapers were also ordered.

There are fourteen ICT-enabled classrooms, three computer labs, two seminar halls, one UGC online resource center and one digital classroom. 

Scholarships 

The university establishes a student mutual support fund for each academic year. This fund provides financial assistance to deserving but economically disadvantaged students. To receive financial support from this fund, students must apply using the prescribed application form available in  the college office. Each application must be accompanied by an income certificate issued by a competent authority regarding the income of the parents. A committee will be formed to review the application and compile a list of good candidates.

Admission

Admission to all courses at Nalbari College is based solely on merit in the previous qualifying examination. The application form must be downloaded and submitted online before the agreed date. There is also an application fee of INR 250. Selected students will be notified and will have to report to the college on the specified date. Failure to do so will result in your temporary access being revoked. If necessary, the entry to the hostel premises will  also take place on the same day.

The original mark sheet of the last qualifying examination.  Certificate from the director of the last attended educational institution 

Certificate (if applicable) issued by the official/manager of the  last participating institution 

Two copies of passport size photographs with date and name of  applicant. 

Original caste certificate while applying for admission in reserved category. 

Original vouchers for non-plan activities while submitting admission  against EC quota. 

Original documents issued by the competent authority if the candidates are differently abled.
