In realization of the need for training better quality technicians to meet the large-scale industrialization of the country, the Ministry of Human Resource Development (the then Ministry of Education), Government of India established four Regional Technical Teachers' Training Institutes (now National Institute of Technical Teachers Training & Research, NITTTR at Bhopal, Chandigarh, Chennai, and Kolkata in 1967. The Institute at Chandigarh is one of these four NITTTRs, started in collaboration with Royal Netherlands Government (up to 1974).

UNational Institute of Technical Teachers Training And Research, Chandigarh affiliated to Panjab University And approved by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE).
University Institute of Hotel And Tourism Management, Chandigarh courses are offered at various levels, Postgraduate Degree i.e Master of Engineering (ME) in Civil Engineering, Master of Engineering (ME) in Environmental Engineering, Master of Technology (M.Tech.) Electronics and Communication Engineering, Master of Technology (M.Tech.) in Computer Science and Engineering, Master of Technology (M.Tech.) in Energy Engineering. Several hostels are available on the premises like Mother Teresa Hall (for girls), Chandra Shekhar Hall (for boys), Tagore Hall (for boys), etc. for the students with facilities like hot water, room service, water cooler, and gym. Hostel mess caters to the food requirement of the students with hygienic and nutritional meals with the capacity of 60-70 students at a time for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. For snacks, there is a canteen present on the premises of the hostel area.
Sports Facilities:The Institute has built up a good infrastructure to promote sports activities for students, faculty, and staff of the institute. The institute has the following Facilities: Badminton Court (Indoor), TT Room, Mini Gym, Volley Ball court ( Outdoor), Carrom & Chess, Football, Cricket, and Hockey. Every year, competitions are held in these disciplines, and as an incentive awards are also given to winners suitably. Students, Faculty, and Staff participate in various games. The institute also provides the necessary equipment to participants. Every year an award for best Sportsperson in Men and Women Category is given. The institute team also takes part in Inter NITTTR Sports tournament, held every year at each of the 4 NITTTRs in rotation. We have won the Championship on 5 occasions out of 10 tournaments held so far. NITTTR Chandigarh was the first to conceptualize and host this event.
Library:The library has 50,000 resources that include books, journals, CDs, etc. There is study material available related to all the courses offered by the institution so that the resources can be of help to the students/faculty members in their research and knowledge expansion. Advanced software is used to keep the record of library books which facilitates easy location of the book and automated issuance along with the check-in and check-out system that reduces waiting time and improves efficiency at large.
