The golden pages of history witnessed an educational revolution in the year 1993 with the inception of N.M.S.Sermathai Vasan College for women, by Nadar Mahajana Sangam with a mission to uplift the educational status of women in and around madurai. The college was named after the benevolent philanthropist Thiru. V.G.Vasan, and Thirumathi Sermathai Vasan, who believed the empowerment of women is through knowledge and economic independence.
Nadar Mahajana Sangam Sermathai Vasan College for Women Avaniapuram, Madurai Tamil Nadu was established in the year 1993 as Private Educational Institute to provide higher education to build a career in the field of Management, Humanities, and Science. Nadar Mahajana Sangam Sermathai Vasan College for Women Avaniapuram is accredited by NAAC and is affiliated with MKU, Madurai. A thousand-mile journey starts with a single step; the college takes its first step with an intake of 100 students, 3 departments, and 7 members of the faculty. At present, the college has 1660 students offering a wide array of 12 UG academic courses and 6 PG courses. This Himalayan development is due to the strength of the diligent and compendious faculty of the college which rises to 86 teaching and 25 non-teaching staff. To update the students with the latest global scenario the college has a stellar library separately housed with reading rooms and an E-learning facility. The library has a number of books and additionally subscribes to countrywide and global journals.

Hostel:
V.V. Balakrishnan Nadar Visalakshi Ammal Hostel is ready with nicely hostel facility for 500 women and it is near the educational block withinside the campus itself. Spacious, ventilated, and furnished rooms for the comfortable stay of hostel students. Kitchens are well equipped with modern steam cooking systems. Clean and hygienic dining halls are maintained throughout. Hostels are provided with reading rooms, TV rooms, and recreation halls. Students admitted to the hostel will not be allowed to stay outside the college during the period of their course.
Canteen:
The Canteen functions mostly for the beneficiary of students. Amiable, hygienic and delicious foods are available in the canteen lunch, Snacks, tea, coffee, and coll drinks are provided at subsidized rates.
Library:
The Library is the heart of the institution. It is to promote sharing of resources by collecting, storing, and disseminating information and by offering computerized services to the users. A well-equipped library has enabled the staff and the students to enrich and enhance their knowledge. Further, each department maintains a library pertaining to their subject. Our students make optimum use of the facilities available in the learning resource center within the campus. Assessment: Continue to strengthen the culture of continuous improvement through ongoing assessment of library activities and programs.To provide free and equitable access to services. The Library preserves and promotes universal access to a broad range of human knowledge, experience, information, and ideas in a welcoming and supportive environment.
Laboratory:
The Institution is having 7 fully equipped Computer Labs. Over 40 spacious computers are available in each Computer Lab with the latest configurations. All the computer systems are connected by LAN for the benefit of students.
Computer Lab:
The Windows, UNIX, and LINUX software packages, Multimedia, Animation, and various editing packages are made available to create simulated environments to suit not only the curricula very well but also to go beyond them.
LANGUAGE LAB:
The institution has an English Communication Lab with the prime objective of developing the four major skills among the students. They are: Listening, Reading, Writing, and Speaking. The lab serves as a dynamic learning tool for the students to learn the language enthusiastically. It helps them strengthen their Positive Attitude and Confidence level.
PHYSICS LAB:
The institution is having 2 well-equipped laboratories with the latest instruments such as spectrometers, microscopes, ultrasonic interferometers, lasers, and optical fibers. The laboratory is spacious enough to accommodate more than 40 students to do Practicals at a stretch.
Meeting Hall:
Our campus is provided with 2 conference halls. Each hall has a seating capacity of 500 members. The conference hall is spacious, well-ventilated, and well furnished. Departmental activities such as National level events were conducted at the conference hall. Faculty Development Programme is conducted in the Seminar Hall, to update the Knowledge of our Faculty Members. The objective of the Conference Hall is to enhance the quality of education. To make this possible, the Conference Hall offers facilities such as LCD projectors, screens, and whiteboards for delivering lectures.
The Placement Cell acts as an interface between the institute and companies and maintains a symbiotic, vibrant, and purposeful relationship with industries across the country as a part of the efforts to develop and strengthen the relationship with the corporate world to place Under Graduate students in prestigious organizations. The Placement cell also attempts to keep the students informed about potential job opportunities and guide them from time to time. To enable our students to get placed in IT sector, MNCs, Marketing and in Finance sectors, Banking Sectors, and various Service Commissions.
To inspire and empower, all round development of young rural women, uplifting their social, moral, and ethical status, fostering globally competent quality-based education through creativity, innovation, and discipline.
