Padmanava College of Engineering was set up in the year 1999 by the Padmanava Educational Trust on the auspicious Birthday of Pandit Jawahar Lal Nehru. The trust is a non-profit making organization with the sole aim of development of Education in Orissa. The College, situated in the heart of the Steel City, Rourkela, Sector -4, yet away from the jostle and bustle of city life with its campus along with the famous Indira Gandhi Park, lies within the bracket formed by the Ring Road in the eastern side and the road that goes beside the STPI in the western side. The lush green trees and the serene atmosphere provide a fitting ambiance for academic pursuits where learning really means evolving. The College has received due recognition from Biju Patnaik University of Technology (BPUT), Rourkela to work with it. The Govt. Orissa has given its due recognition and concurrence to the institute. All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), the apex governing body of all the technical education institutes in the country, has given its due approval to the college.

Sports Cell:

Separate hostel accommodation for gents and ladies students, particularly for outside students are available nearer to the college. Intending students shall inquire in advance from the Superintendent of the respective hostel regarding the availability of accommodation either in 1st year / subsequent year and prepare accordingly.

A student may be permitted on the application in the prescribed form during the beginning of each academic year to get admission in the respective hostel with his/her parents or local guardian at Rourkela. Students permitted to stay outside the hostel ( after taking admission in the respective hostel )are exempted from mess charges only and may be entitled to a refund of the mess advance if paid at the time of admission. Each student in order to complete the admission in any of the hostels ( i.e. Gents / Ladies hostel ) has to select a local guardian at Rourkela who may be contacted in time of emergency. The name, full address, both office and residence, telephone number, designation, and willingness of the local guardian have to be furnished at the time of admission in the prescribed format.

The PCE Library has a rich collection of books. At present, it has 33,374 books on different subjects. There are 3775 titles. The library, to keep pace with the latest developments in various engineering fields, subscribes to International Journals, Newspapers, Periodicals, and Magazines. There are 82 National & International Journals and 18 Magazines subscribed by the College.

As efficiency, both mental and physical, is an absolute necessity, it should not only be developed but also maintained. Students in this Institute are being helped combat and prevent the impending psychometric maladies and serious physical disorders. To take care of emergency medical requirements, IGH, the Super specialty Hospital is situated in close vicinity where both staff and students can be admitted in case of an emergency, Besides, the college has appointed an experienced Doctor who periodically visits the college and the Hostels, and gives necessary advice in case of minor ailments.

It was felt that for efficient management and healthy growth of the College, communication, interaction, and monitoring systems must be improved. Therefore it was decided to convert the College into an e-campus through WLAN (Wireless Local Area Networking), which uses radio waves to communicate among devices. An access point (AP) with an antenna is physically connected to a conventional wired Ethernet network and Servers as a bridge to the wireless network. Wi-Fi WLAN also supports communication among the client systems, allowing the devices to communicate directly with one another in a peer-to-peer fashion. Up to approximately 150 feet, a Wi-Fi 802.11b WLAN typically can deliver broadband performance with a signaling speed of up to 11 Mbps. Actual performance depends upon the signal pattern and the number of walls, floors, and other architectural obstacles in the area. Wi-Fi 802.11a WLANs can achieve speeds of up to 54 Mbps within a somewhat reduced range.
