Palamuru University has been established in the year 2008 as a State University by statutory enactment to cater to the growing requirements of Higher Education of the region in general and of the Mahabubnagar district in particular. The University started functioning from the academic year 2008-09 with the then PG College of Osmania University at Mahabubnagar as the nucleus, where in five PG courses were being offered.

The New University set out with a vision and plan of action. On the academic front, new courses (both regular and self-financing) have been started and initial faculty recruitment on a modest scale had been taken up. In the very first year of its establishment during 2008-09, three Regular programmes study viz. M.A English, M.Sc Chemistry & M.Sc Microbiology were launched. During 2009-10, one regular course of M.Sc 5 Year Integrated Chemistry and two self-financing courses viz. M.S.W and B. Pharmacy were introduced. To supplement the teaching arrangements, services of Academic Consultants and Guest Faculty have been availed.

Palamuru University has taken care to develop IT infrastructure as the vehicle for the promotion of academic excellence. The facilities created include:

Medical Facilities:

In order to be free from any illness or injury, the University Health Centre at the Palamuru University campus has started its health services quite recently. The Health Centre is equipped with adequate beds, needed medicines, and important amenities for the well-being of the students and staff. The Health Centre services are provided on a daily basis by a team of doctors, paramedical staff and outreach workers.

Library:

The Central Library of the college holds around 7900 books and 300 donated books. It has subscriptions to 10 periodicals and 40 learned journals in various subjects. All the students, teachers, and researchers who are enrolled as members can take advantage of the great resources available to them.

Hostel:

The College provides accommodation facilities to both boys and girls through its four hostels namely Krishna Veni Women’s Hostel, PG Boys Hostel, Integrated Chemistry Boys Hostel and Pharmacy Boys Hostel. Mess facilities are also available to the students inside the hostel only.

Sports and Games facilities:
