Paschim Guwahati Mahavidyalaya is located at Dharapur Chariali in the western suburbs of Guwahati, Assam, next to National Highway 37 towards Guwahati Lokapriya Gopinath Bardoloi International Airport. About 4km. Away from Gauhati University, the College sits on the edge of The Deeper Bil, the only Ramsar site in Northeast India and a world-renowned bird sanctuary. The college was founded on September 5, 1978, with the aim of providing higher education at a reasonable price to residents of the economically underdeveloped surrounding suburbs. The college offers high school through graduate courses in arts and commerce.

Paschim Guwahati Mahavidyalaya campus covers 4.58 acres of land. The college campus is located in a suburb away from the city, with lush greenery and peach colors, and is pollution-free. Aware of the competitive and challenging life that awaits students, the University prepares to meet the demands of the times by introducing new facilities and useful training courses from time to time. Currently, the college has a computer center, high school, NCK, and NSS campus wings, and a qualified undergraduate physical education teacher. The college organizes professional training programs such as weaving, doll-making, making fruit gourds, cucumbers, other traditional specialties, painting, music, drama, drama, etc. In order to shape the overall personality of the students, the college also has academic units Assam Sahitya Sabha, Assam Science Society, Red Ribbon Club, Women's Cell, and Study Center to name a few.

Paschim Guwahati Mahavidyalaya is affiliated with the University of Gauhati University, It has been registered under 2(F) and 12(B) of the UGC Act 1956 in February 2005. The College has been assessed and accredited by NAAC in the year 2004. The college has been provincialized under the Provincialisation Act of Govt. of Assam in the year 2006.

The library has a reading room that can accommodate almost 150 readers at a time. It has a book bank to help deserving students in need. The library also has a copier to assist readers.AHSEC and GU final exams are also available in the library. Two new LAN-enabled computers have been added to the college library to make it easier for students, teachers, and other library users to use the library. With the acquisition of new books, handbooks, and encyclopedias, the strength of the library grows year by year.

Hostel:

Paschim Guwahati Mahavidyalaya, Dharapur is one of the pioneer colleges in Guwahati city with commendable student strength. This is due to the student-friendly environment that has been cultivated for many years. Even before hostels existed, this university's campus had students from Meghalaya, Jorhat, Arunachal Pradesh, and crowded outlying areas of Assam. Although the college has students from different states of India, different cultural communities, and tribes, it has a homogeneous identity.

Paschim Guwahati Mahavidyalya Girls Hostel was established on August 1st, 2018 to meet the needs of female students from out-of-state and non-state areas. The dormitory environment is friendly to seven-state students, and the spirit of brotherhood and national integration among the students is very strong. The hostel offers a friendly environment for the full development of students.
