P.K.R. Arts College for Women, affiliated to Bharathiar University is an unaided Autonomous Arts and Science college. It had been founded with a vision to empower rural women and has been managed by Dhandapani Rural Charitable Trust since 1994. The college is located in a beautiful locale, surrounded by hillocks and green fields providing a serene and pleasant atmosphere for learning. The college is dedicated to the everlasting memory of the late Thiru. Kalimudhaliar, had the noble vision of educating the masses. Unfortunately, he was not able to realise his dream during his lifetime and the responsibility had passed on to his grandson, late Thiru P.R. Natarajan, founder Correspondent of this college. Inspired by his grandfather’s ideals, he dedicated his life to enlightening rural women by starting a women’s college in the name of his father Late Thiru. P.K. Ramasamy this college was born of such a consistent effort to realize the vision of the Late Thiru Kalimudhaliar and christened as P.K.R. Arts College for Women. The Management’s tireless efforts have resulted in getting affiliation for more new courses every year. With strenuous efforts and progressive results, the college now offers 12 Under Graduate, 8 Post-Graduate, 7 M.Phil., and 6 Ph D., Research Programmes. As of date, there are 106 teaching staff members and 2,227 students on the roll. There are 7 Departments and 59 classrooms in the college. Every Department has an adequate number of computers with internet facilities. The classrooms are quite spacious, well ventilated, and well furnished

Accreditation and Ranking:

The college had been accredited by NAAC with an ‘A’ Grade in 2013 and again re-accredited by NAAC with an ‘A’ Grade in 2018. Further, an Autonomous Status had been granted by the UGC in 2017 and affiliated with Bharthiyar University.

The faculty members are encouraged by the College Management to organize and attend seminars, conferences, work-shops, and symposiums. They are also motivated to pursue their research, do Major / Minor Projects, and publish articles. The college publishes bi-annual newsletters and magazines every year. The classroom teaching is highly interactive through paper presentations, assignments, and virtual study tours. Every year around 20 students used to get university ranks in the university examinations, before the college had become an autonomous institute. The college has a separate placement cell which helps the students to get placed after completing their studies. IBM conducts placement training classes for Post-Graduate students. The college conducts CA (Foundation Course) coaching classes for students who are aspiring to become chartered accountants.

The college library has a diverse collection of 31,539 books along with various National and International Journals and Newspapers. The audio-visual section houses CDROMs, audio and video tapes, and cassettes about different subjects. The library is automated with OPAC of library holdings. It has 22 Wi-Fi-enabled systems. The library remains open throughout the week.

Laboratories:

The college has four well-equipped laboratories including two computer laboratories with 526 terminals and an internet facility to undertake practical work and research studies in various disciplines like Physics, Chemistry, and Computer Science. The Digital Language Lab enables students to improve their English communication skills. The entire college campus is Wi-Fi enabled.

Sports:

Sports and games, being the next best activity of the college, are encouraged by the Management and the students have continuously brought many laurels to the institution. The college stands second in sports and games amongst institutions affiliated with Bharathiar University. For the past 20 consecutive years, the college has bagged First place in Kabbadi and 8 consecutive years First place in Hockey.
