Started in 1984, Pondicherry Engineering College is an esteemed college that is funded entirely by the government of Puducherry. It started as a part of the VIIth five-year plan but has continued to be promoted by the government. The college is one of the most reputed colleges in Puducherry with its affiliation to Pondicherry University. Ratings-wise, the PEC Puducherry lets the numbers do the talking. The college has been ranked 144 in the NIRF rankings 2021 when it comes to the engineering category. PEC offers a lot of engineering and professional courses for interested candidates. There are 3 boys’ hostels (Varali, Saranga and Charukesi named after ragas of Carnatic Music) and a girls’ hostel (Tharangini). The hostels at PTU witness students of varied cultures and diversities from various parts of India. The hostels have attached messes and serve a menu decided collectively by the students of the hostel. Every hostel is equipped with a Wi-Fi facility and has a common room and spacious areas where the members can socialize, relax or play. Hostellers celebrate festivals like Chithirai Thiruvizha, Onam and Holi with great energy and responsibility every year.

Currently, the library of PEC has more than 50,000 books along with various journals. The library also provides an option for e-books and e-journals. The library of PEC is networked with Madras Library Network which means it has access to resources of more than 50 libraries situated in Madras. The library also provides photocopy services.

The auditorium of PTU is a marvellous construction with a seating capacity of around 800 people. The main hall of the auditorium is engineered for fantastic acoustics and has all the necessary equipment for hosting a performance, function or presentation. The two-storeyed building also houses a cafeteria with an attached kitchen, 2 seminar halls and green rooms.

There are a total of 9 exclusive laboratories only in the ECE department which is one of the eight courses offered to UG students. Apart from the laboratories, each department has a library which also includes papers and journals of students who studied and worked in PEC.

There is a dispensary inside the college campus of PEC which provides service to all the students and staff of the college. There is a resident medical officer along with staff nurses working around the clock for emergency purposes.

The sports complex of PTU bustles with energy all the time and has been fostering several athletes at PTU for ages now. The Sports Complex encompasses basketball, football/cricket, volleyball, and handball courts. Sports events are conducted around the year concluded by a grand Sports Day to felicitate the champions of the year.

Admission

PEC Puducherry admission for UG courses is completed through Centralised Admission Committee (CENTAC) based on marks obtained in the qualifying examination. The master's students are admitted through the same based on their GATE marks.
