There was no Pharmacy College in this region till 1981 and Dr. Patangrao Kadam, Founder of Bharati Vidyapeeth, realizing the need for training the students in Pharmaceutical Sciences established Poona College of Pharmacy in 1981. Thus this college is the pioneering pharmacy institute in this region. With a person like Dr.Shivajirao Kadam who is a very dynamic man with great academic commitment and orientation at the helm of affairs, as its first Principal for 25 years, this College has now come to be known as one of the best Pharmacy Colleges in the country for its academic excellence.

Poona College of Pharmacy was earlier permanently affiliated with the University of Pune. It is now a constituent unit of Bharati Vidyapeeth (Deemed to be University). It is a grant-in-aid institute, that conducts Graduate, Post-graduate, and Doctoral programs in Pharmaceutical Sciences.

Poona College of Pharmacy courses are offered at various levels like Undergraduate Degree i.e Bachelor of Pharmacy (B.Pharm.) Facilities

The College houses spaciously laid out, highly equipped, and properly maintained laboratories for different branches of Pharmacy viz. Pharmaceutics, Pharmaceutical and Medicinal Chemistry, Pharmaceutical Analysis, Pharmacology, Pharmacognosy and Natural Products, Quality Assurance, Microbiology, Computer Education, Industrial Pharmacy, Tissue Culture, Computer Aided Drug Design, and Polymer Research. We have provided separate laboratories for the post-graduate students of all the six branches viz. Pharmaceutics, Pharmaceutical Chemistry, Pharmacology, Pharmacognosy, Quality Assurance Techniques, and Pharmaceutical Biotechnology. All these laboratories have the necessary and latest instruments and equipment. The undergraduate students have been provided with separate laboratories which are also equipped with all the required instruments.

Our laboratories are equipped as compared to the level of international standards and norms (and thus have set an example for others.)

Hostel

Separate hostel facilities for boys, as well as girls, are available on our campus. The hostels provide neat and clean rooms with proper ventilation and light. Quality food is provided in the mess. We maintain strict discipline in the hostels.

Library

Library facilities are the heart of any educational institution. The college library has been recently renovated and has now a beautifully illuminated, well-ventilated, and furnished reading hall. This rich and up-dated library possesses a large number of books, and back issues of national and international journals of repute, including Chemical Abstracts and Pharmacopeias. The library is updated every year and newer journals, books, e-journals, and e-books are added to it. Online databases such as J-Gate, N-list, and Micro-medex are subscribed to and available to library members. This helps the faculty members and students to keep themselves abreast of recent developments in the pharmaceutical sciences.

The library is kept open for the students from morning till late in the evening. The students have open access to the books. Book Bank facility is also available for students of scheduled castes, scheduled tribes, and also for economically backward students.

Admission 

Under Poona College of Pharmacy Admission 2023, the college has so many Pharmacy courses running in its curriculum at many levels. At UG Level, the college provides B.Pharm and B.Pharm Practice whereas there are so many specializations being offered by the college at PG Levels such as Pharmaceutics, Pharmaceutical Chemistry, Pharmacology, Pharmacognosy, Quality Assurance Techniques, Drug Regulatory Affairs, and Pharmaceutical Biotechnology. The college also offers research-level Ph.D. courses in all 7 specializations. Apart from all, there are diploma-level pharmacy courses are also offered by the college as Pharm D and Pharm D (PB).

Admissions to all the above-mentioned courses are strictly on the rule of the affiliating university as admissions to the courses are done based on University-based entrance exams such as ABON-2020 for B.Pharm and Pharm D. courses while M. Pharm and Pharm D. (PB), PHARMPG-2020 will be conducted.

Placements

The college owns a training & Placement Cell at its campus for the better well-being of its students. The college’s track record for giving placement opportunities to the students is very good and hence so many MNCs, as well as Indian pharmaceutical companies, frequently visit the college campus to recruit its students as their employees at various elite designations. Some of the prominent recruiters of the college are such as Elli Lilly, Ranbaxy, Wockhardt, Novartis, Aventis, Cipla, Lupin, Natco, etc.
