Prafulla Chandra College receives a rich legacy of the renowned City College, South Calcutta Branch, Evening Section, established by the Brahmo Samaj Education Society and is subsequently named in memory of the internationally acclaimed scientist and educationist, Prafulla Chandra Roy. This leading evening college is affiliated with the University of Calcutta since 1955, recognized by the University Grants Commission in 1961, accredited by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council in 2007, and converted into a co-educational institution by the University of Calcutta in 2012. It offers Three-Year Degree (Honours and General) Courses in the Bachelor of Arts, the Bachelor of Science, and the Bachelor of Commerce. Located in a very fashionable part of South Kolkata, easily accessible by frequently available railway services and other modes of public transport system from all parts of the city as well as suburbs, it is currently a government-aided co-educational evening college with huge infrastructural facilities. Lab

All the departments that have experimental studies included in the curricula have very well-equipped and sophisticated laboratory facilities. This includes departments of Chemistry, Computer Science, Physics, Statistics, Mathematics, Electronics, Anthropology, Botany, Food & Nutrition, and Zoology. The teachers and the laboratory assistants of the respective departments pay meticulous attention to the proper maintenance and smooth running of these laboratories. The college has 22 in several laboratories attached to different departments. To enhance the teaching-learning-research facilities, we have received financial assistance of Rs. 79.5 lac under the FIST program of DST, which has led to significant improvement in laboratory infrastructure in the postgraduate departments.

Library

P.C. College Central Library was set up with the inception of the College in 1960 keeping in mind the views of Dr. S.R. Ranganathan (1892-1972), the Father of Library Science in India. The main objective of the library is to disseminate information to the faculty, research scholars, students, teaching, and non-teaching staff of this college. The library has a rich collection of textbooks, reference books, journals, magazines, CDs, newspapers, etc. to provide various types of information to its users.

Hostel Facilities

Separate hostels are provided to boys and girls. The girls’ hostel has a capacity of 80 students. The boys’ hostel is available for the SC/ ST/ OBC students of the district with a capacity of 80 students.

Sports Facilities

The college provides several infrastructural sports facilities to the students. These include a playground, basketball court, volleyball court, badminton court, 16 stations multi gym equipment, and indoor games like table tennis, carom, and chess.

Seminar Hall

The college has an air-conditioned seminar room with advanced technical facilities which is used for debates, seminars, council meetings, society events, etc.

Wi-Fi campus

Computer laboratories have been networked using LAN by 32/16-bit switches. The college has been provided with twenty landlines with broadband connection distributed in different departments. Ten of these have wireless modems because of which most of the lab-based departments already have a Wi-Fi-enabled environment. Work is in progress to set up a separate broadband network to make the entire campus Wi-Fi enabled.

Medical Facility

Recently, a policy named ‘Students Safety Insurance Policy’ of United India Insurance Company Limited has been introduced. The college plans to include all students in this scheme. A 16-station multi-gymnasium has been installed under the supervision of a trained instructor.

Alumni Association

The college has a well-established & active Alumni Association. The association strives to leverage collective strength from senior students to nurture their younger ones and to stand by the developmental work and well-being of the college. The alumni have always extended their helping hand in our hour of need. Their experiences are shared with the present students which facilitates the all-around growth of the institution.

Placement Cell

Acharya Prafulla Chandra College, Kolkata has a Career and Placement committee. The college has formed a structured mechanism for providing career guidance and placement to students. The Counselling and Placement Cell in association with a few external organizations organizes several lectures and counseling sessions. These are organized by the departments as well.
