Established in 1966, Purash-Kanpur Haridas Nandi Mahavidyalaya is one of the oldest rural general degree Colleges in Howrah district affiliated to the University of Calcutta. The long cherished dream of the Late Haridas Nandi for providing higher education to the youths of the locality was materialized under the benevolent leadership of his able son Dr. Jitendra Nath Nandi with the wholehearted participation, help, and cooperation of some dedicated souls and fine minds of the locality.

Infrastructure and Facilities

Library:

Library Resources: The college has a central library that housed learning resources like about 21000 texts and reference books on the existing subjects and courses, two daily newspapers, several magazines, journals, and a question bank. The library is computerized for its resource management and lending activity. With the introduction of the Choice-based Credit System (CBCS), the library has enriched its stock with newer titles to cater to the needs of the students. The library is semi-computerized with Online Public Access Catalogue (OPAC) to search for a book by author, title, and subject. Recently the library has been upgraded for automated issue-return activities and equipped with Radio Frequency identification (RFID) and anti-theft detector using funds available from RUSA. This also works as an automated inventory management system as well as a self-service check-out by the member-readers.E-Resource: The library offers access to Inflibnet which stores thousands of journals, articles, books, and dissertations for reference and research of teachers and students alike. There are some computers equipped with internet in the library for surfing on the net and accessing e-resources. Along with this, the college has subscribed to different e-journals and e-books for the academic benefit of the students and teachers.
