Founded in 1948, Purnea College in Purnia is the oldest higher education organization in the region. Located in the suburbs bordering West Bengal to the east and Nepal to the north, the group commemorates the efforts of freedom fighters in the region. The late Dr Lakshmi Narayan Sudhanshu, Ram Narayan Mandal (both were sound systems of Bihar Legislative Assembly) Bhola Paswan Shastri (former Minister & Central Minister of Bihar) Said Freedom Fighter & Sarvodya Leader   Late Baidyanath Choudhary, Late Rai Bahadur Durga, Prasanna Ghosh, Raghunath Prasad Singh, Upendra Narayan Choudhary, Anup Lal Mehta, Haji Ziaur Rahman, Seth Raut Mal, Kumar Bimlan and Sinha of Banaili Estate, later District Judge Shiv Prasad Singh were the sources of inspiration for restoring order in this.
