Purnia University is a state university and it was established in 2018 under the Bihar State University Act. The university runs its campus at Purnea College, thus far, it intends to create a 37.24-acre campus with its own identity, which will include academic and administrative blocks, residential quarters, sports and cultural areas, and other essential facilities. Purnea University is dedicated to providing quality education as well as promoting excellence in academia across the region of Bihar, with Prof. Pawan Kumar Jha being appointed as the Vice-Chancellor by the Governor of Bihar, who also serves as the Chancellor of the university. It has been approved by University Grants Commission (UGC). This University offers several UG and PG level courses in various streams such as Business and Management Studies, Science, IT and Software, Accounting and Commerce, Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences. All courses are approved by National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE). Admissions are based on merit and entrance exams. Purnea University includes 15 constituent colleges and 19 affiliated colleges.
