Raja Peary Mohan College was founded on 20th June 1887 by an eminent philanthropist, promoter of education, and social reformer in nineteenth-century Bengal Raja Joykrishna Mukherjee, who was also a benevolent zamindar of Uttarpara in the Hooghly District of West Bengal. As a supporter of Iswarchandra Vidyasagar's social reforms, he is still remembered as the first signatory to the historic petition sent to Lord Dalhousie, praying for the legalization of Hindu widow marriage in 1856.

Infrastructure and Facilities

Library:

The Central Library of Raja Peary Mohan College has a very unique and rich collection of books, periodicals, and reports as well as multimedia resources built over nearly one hundred years. This includes some of the rarest materials along with thousands of important documents and journals. The Central Library of Raja Peary Mohan College is situated on the Ground Floor of the new building. The library was established way back in the year 1927 with about 1000 books, mostly obtained through donations from the founder members. For several years, the library was located in one of the small classrooms of the earlier hostel building. However, with time, as the number of books increased, the library had to be shifted to a larger hall in Room No. 101. In 1963 there was a separate library on the 3rd floor. In the year 2018, The Central Library had to be shifted to the Ground floor to become functional in fulfilling the long-standing academic hunger of all categories of our users. Central library is spread over three levels, it has 6 special sections, (i) Textbook Section; (ii) Reference Section (iii) Rare Section; (iv) Remedial Section; (v) Periodicals Section; and (vi) Braille Books. The library has been upgraded with the pace of time with KOHA software for extending facilities of automated search and online access respectively. An automated barcode system is being used to make the circulation system effectively modernized. The library has provided digital resource service through Institutional repository software DSpace.Presently, the total number of books in the library is more than 29,000 and every year there is a fresh purchase of books from the RUSA grants UGC grants, and College fundsRaja Peary Mohan College Library is a proud member of NLIST, (INFLIBNET [http://nlist.inflibnet.ac.in]) National Library and Information Services Infrastructure for Scholarly Content which is part of UGC Infonet Digital Library Consortium, JSTOR Digital Library extends e-resources to colleges.

Canteen:

Fresh, healthy food, snacks, and tea are supplied to the students at subsidized rates from the Students’ Canteen.

Computer lab:

There is a well-designed, modern Central Computing Laboratory with advanced audio-visual & multi-media facilities like LCD Projector, Overhead Projector, Smart Board, Laptops & 13 Computers with high configuration hardware of the latest generation. The college has installed LAN with a high-configuration server. Installation of an eyepiece local area network (LAN) facility provides a fast flow of data across computers and sustains internet connection in departmental computers to browse and download study materials, research papers, etc. The Central Computing Laboratory is also connected to the college LAN which ensures internet connections in all the computers. Qualified and experienced staff maintains the systems & provides technical assistance to the faculty members and students. The computers are also interfaced with LCDs to train and develop PowerPoint presentations for the research papers to be presented in conferences/symposia/workshops. There are separate Departmental Computer Laboratories for Physics, Mathematics & Commerce departments.

Auditorium:

The Centenary Hall is an auditorium with advanced audio-visual multi-media facilities like LCD Projector, Laptop, etc. The accommodation is unique of its kind in the area with a stage for academic as well as cultural activities. It can accommodate 320 people and is used for academic purposes, conducting Seminars, counseling for admission to Degree Courses, etc. The auditorium is also used by social organizations, schools, library organizations, Cine Club, etc. as a platform to carry out various activities related to the overall cultural upliftment of the community.

Gym:

There is a gymnasium equipped with modern instruments for the students of the college. Students can use the facility after class hours.

Laboratories:

The Botany Laboratory the years are: is quite a well-equipped laboratory at the University of Calcutta. Basic and advanced facilities, available/acquired over a Plant museum, Laboratory with dissecting facilities, Centrifuge, Microscope both Compound and Simple, Camera lucida, Occular micro-meter, Stage micrometer, Overhead projector, Incubator, Microtome for tissue section, Colorimeter, Digital photo-electric Colorimeter, Centrifuge, Pointer eyepiece, Analytical balance, Single pan balance, Digital pan balance, Refrigerator, etc. Recently they have innovatively set up a virtual herbarium with the meticulously preserved species (properly tagged and identified) from their collection.

Scholarship

According to raja peary mohan college's policy, no student admitted on merit will discontinue his/her studies because of financial difficulties.   to accomplish this, a scholarship subcommittee is formed to provide students seeking scholarship and fellowship opportunities with all the support they need.

Objectives:
