This was timely recognized by Raja Kali Prasad Singh then the Raja of Jharia. He constituted a trust for establishing the college in 1949 and started Raja Shiv Prasad College in memory of his father. In 1951 the college secured temporary affiliation with Patna University. Bihar University granted permanent affiliation to the college in 1952.

This was recognized in due course by Raja Kali Prasad Singh and then by Raja Jhari. In 1949 he set up a college foundation fund and established Raja Shiv Prasad College in memory of his father. In 1951, the college acquired temporary affiliation with Patna University. The College of Bihar awarded the college permanent affiliation in 1952. With the founding of Ranchi University in 1960 and Vinoba Bhave University (VBU) in 1992, the college subsequently became a member of those universities.

Accreditations and Ranking:

The college was registered under Section 2(f) of the UGC Act on 10/31/87. The college is the oldest college in Dhanbad and adjacent districts and the second oldest sub-unit of VBU, Hazaribag. In 2006, it became the university's first NAAC-accredited charter facility.
