Rajendra College (Autonomous), Balangir, a premier centre of education of Odisha, was one of the first new Colleges not only to be affiliated to Sambalpur University set up in 1944 but a significant Constituent College that the incipient University required for its own recognition as the first University of the State. The College has a hallowed history and a sprawling geography of it own.
The Rajendra University was established in 1944. The institution initially started as a college offering B.A. (pass) classes. It then grew to a full-fledged degree college by the 1964-65 academic year. In 1978-79, the university added post-graduate courses. It was previously part of the Sambalpur University until 2002.

In Rajendra University Hostel, boarders can enjoy a wide range of facilities. The campus is located in a beautiful natural area. There are three fully furnished hostels for students at the University. These are designed to accommodate 294 male students and 51 female students. The hostels are supervised by a Superintendent and Assistant Superintendent. There are two collection schedules for mess dues: once in the first week of the month, and another on the 15th day after the first collection. Failure to pay mess dues will incur a fine of Rs.1/ per day, and if the account is not cleared on the 18th day of the month, it will be declined. Additionally, students will not be allowed to pay their college fees unless the mess dues are cleared.

The Farm Power Laboratory includes cut sections of different tractors and engine models. They can even try out different engines. Ample space is available for practicals. Scholarship can be withdrawn at any time if the development or conduct of the Scholar is determined unsatisfactory.No individual receiving a Scholarship will be approved to maintain some other Scholarship provided through the Government entirely or partially without the unique sanction of the Director of Higher Education (D.H.E.) Such sanction can be accorded best in case of very outstanding merit. Merit and indigence are the standards for the award of monetary help to college students. National Scholarships, Government of India Scholarship, Senior College Merit Scholarship. Free studentships are granted to deserving college students as much as 12% of the overall power of the college. Poor & deserving college students must practice to the Principal.
