Rammohan College owes its origin to City College, Calcutta which is one of the oldest first grades colleges in West Bengal. It was founded in 1881 by a band of patriotic and selfless Brahmo leaders like Ananda Mohan Bose, Pandit Sivnath Sastri, and Umesh Chandra Dutta. Rastraguru Surendranath Banerjee later joined the College as a teacher. Up to 1961 City College had a women's Department in the morning which has separately affiliated in 1961 to Calcutta University and renamed as Rammohan College.

Infrastructure and Facilities

Library:

Rammohan College Central Library is well equipped with books on each subject and with periodicals, and magazines of generalized and specialized interest. Teachers and students equally benefit from the library. At present the library has a huge collection of books, reference books, magazines, newspapers, etc. to provide various types of information to its users. The main objective of the library is to disseminate information to the faculty, research scholars, students, teaching, and non-teaching staff of this college. Along with the central library, seminar libraries are also maintained by the various departments. The Departmental libraries have been built up to provide easy access to books to the students. The departmental libraries consist mainly of textbooks and a few reference books. Students can borrow books from the Departmental Library with the permission of the concerned teacher of the Department.

Hostel Facilities:

Rammohan College owns a hostel for Bonafide students of the college under the name “Sadhana Sarkar Memorial Hostel” situated near Hedua at 35, A Vedananda Road, Kolkata. It is a four storied building near the Hedua swimming pool, accessible both from Bidhan Sarani and from Acharya Prafulla Chandra Road near Manicktala crossing. It is equipped with a visitor’s room, dining, and assembly hall, study room, four and five bedded rooms, and dormitories. Indoor game facilities are also available.

Canteen:

The college has two cheap canteens for the students within the college premises both in the Old building as well as in the new science building.

Gym:

The gymnasium of Rammohan College was established with the aim of promoting fitness and a healthy lifestyle among the students and faculty members. It is open to all students and faculty members. The gymnasium of Rammohan College also provides a platform for students to engage in sports and physical activities. The gymnasiums are equipped with modern equipment and facilities.
