The need and essence of commerce education for the all-around growth and development of a society do not require too much emphasis and explanation. Keeping this fact in view and the initiative taken by some noted personalities and educationists led by the Founder Principal Late J.R Sengupta, "Jiaganj College of Commerce" was established on August 01, 1962. The college started its functioning in the evening shift on the premises of the neighboring Sripat Singh College and imparted education for the B.Com (Pass) course. In 1973, the college was shifted to the present premises. It was made possible by the generous contribution extended by a benevolent local landlord, Late Sripat Singh Duga, and thus, the college got a new independent set-up. Setup affiliating University, the University of Calcutt, conferred affiliation up to the Honours course in B.Com (Accountancy). The college then started its activities as a Day college, and it was renamed "Ranhanya Kumari College of Commerce" in the name of Late Rani Dhanya Kumari, the wife of Late Sripat Singh Dugar. At present, a small but decent campus is located in a pollution-free tranquil environment far from the madding crowd with the lush green outfield covering a vast area of its own.

Library:

A spacious and well-furnished library has been made available with a generous grant from the UGC. Besides, the college development fund is also spent from time to time for procuring books and journals in the library. The Library of the college is enriched with valuable books and journals and periodicals. It possesses more than eleven thousand texts and reference books. News dailies are also kept for regular readers. The library has separate ading spaces for the students and the teaching and non-teaching staff. Recently, departmental libraries have been introduced for the students, namely Hons. in Bengali, English, Sociology, and Commerce. Medical Facilities:

The college has the institutional membership of the Students “Health Home. For this membership, every student can avail of medical facilities in the Students Health Home with nominal expenditure. Basic First-aid facilities are available.

Sports:

Through the Sports Infrastructure Development grant, an Indoor Games Building was developed in the year 2012 along with the development of a Football and cricket ground with 6 track lanes around the ground. The grant was received from UGC to the tune of Rs. 30.60 lakhs. Before that, a boundary wall surrounded the playground. The college was constructed out of a State government grant. The playground in its new shape along with the Indoor sports complex is a new glory of the college and is widely used and appreciated by the student community this college has a sports facility.
